This month's Featured Article is an interview with one of the fine tattooed ladies from the Midwest USA! Keri Dangerous, 24, from Columbus Ohio has been so kind to show us some of her ink - much of it from Midwest natives... and all of it well worth taking a closer look!
Where did you grow up? Chillicothe, OH, yeah I'm a small town gal!
What do you do for a living? I work for LensCrafters as an Optical Technician.
Single, married… what’s your relationship status? Single... and looking fellas!
Tell us a little bit about yourself: The best way I can describe me is short and sassy! Just a fun broad who loves being a positive, strong willed, tattooed lady. I love unicorns and Elvis Presley. I do a little bit of photography when I'm not working full time. I'm an undercover nerd who loves lurking around in the comic book shop. And obviously I love my tattoos.
When did you get your first tattoo? Who did it? Was it a good experience? My first tattoo was a tattered heart with wings on my upper back. Matt Griffith from 2 Dollar Pistol in Chillicothe, Ohio did it for me. He's been a friend of mine for a long time so it was a great experience. Me, him, his wife and my sister would go in after shop hours and work, we had a lot of fun with it.
When did you get your most recent tattoo? Who did it? What inspired your decision to get your latest ink from this artist? I got my most recent tattoo on May 16th at Hell City. Josh Woods did it for me. Josh is just an amazing artist and since I've worked with him before I loved the idea of getting more work by him. I knew I wanted to get something on my feet and I wanted something bright, colorful, and fun. So of course Josh was first on my list.
You’ve been tattooed by a handful of Midwest tattoo artists! Give us a run-down of who did what: Matt Griffith from 2 Dollar Pistol did my heart with wings on my upper back and the small TCB logo on my right arm. Josh Williams from Truth and Triumph tattoo in Dayton, OH did the rose and spider webs on the back of my neck and the Bawidamann pin-up girl on my leg. And Mike Kerin from Evolved in Columbus, Ohio did my chest panel.
You got some ink at Hell City in Columbus a few weeks ago! Was this your first Hell City? Have you gotten tattooed at any other conventions or shows? This was my first Hell City! Soooo I was extra excited about it. Attending and getting tattooed there was a great experience. I met so many amazing people. Plus it was great tattooing with Josh Woods because we had so many people coming around to see what we were working on. Even if I was completely insane and decided to get BOTH feet tattooed at one time and couldn't walk the rest of the weekend!!!! It was worth it!
You have a Bawidamann-inspired tattoo on your leg, right? Any plans for more pinup ink? I do! And of course! I've already made plans with Josh Williams to do a couple more Bawidamann ladies! Which I'm very much anticipating, Bawidamann is amazing and I just love the one that Mr. Williams has already done for me. I'm sure I'll feel the same about the others!
What’s your favorite tattoo so far? My last unicorn half sleeve. I think because it has the most meaning to me.
Got any tattoos that you haven’t shown us? If so – where and what??? Nope. I show em all off as much as I can!
You’ve got quite a bit of visible ink – how has being a tattooed girl affected you in mainstream day-to-day life? Do you get a lot of compliments? Do people treat you differently than your non-tattooed friends? It hasn't really affected me directly in any way. My tattoos are still somewhat "coverable" though I'm lucky enough to not have to worry about doing so. I get tons of compliments. Sometimes people even follow me through the store to track me down to ask where I had them done at. Two little girls came running after me at the mall the other day to ask if they could see them. I love that. I don't go anywhere without someone saying something and it's never been negative. I get really positive feedback and that’s what it's all about. Showing that women can still be classy, beautiful, sexy, AND tattooed. I've never been treated any differently for my tattoos either. All my friends and family are very accepting of it. Though I'm sure my mom would prefer me to have went without tattoos she's at the point where she knows it's me and she tells me they're "pretty" hahaha!
When you’re not getting tattooed, what are you usually up to? spending time with family, hanging out with the ladies, photography, traveling, movie fanatic, I love a good book, and always enjoy hitting up a good show
Last, but not least… what are your future tattoo plans? Got anything in mind? A certain artist you’re dying to get some ink from? My future plans are to finish the sleeve started by Josh Woods we have some more characters to add to it and it should turn out fabulous. He also has a hand piece ready for me that we didn't have the time to do at Hell City. Maybe have him do my right arm?? Who knows!
I'd love to be worked on by Sean Herman, Nikko Hurtado, Gunnar, Mike Devries, Michele Wortman, any of the fellahs out of Hope Gallery..this list could go on forever!
