GetInkMidwest.com Visits Mike Guidone of Monkey Bones Tattoo in Beavercreek, Ohio

The Talent and Friendliness of Monkey Bones Tattoo Keeps Us Coming Back!

Monkey Bones Tattoo - GetInkMidwest.com Featured Article April 2008

I’ve become a repeat customer at Monkey Bones Tattoo in Beavercreek, Ohio, over the past few months – in fact, it’s become a family affair! For Christmas I took my father-in-law to to Monkey Bones for his first tattoo by Matty McTatty, and since starting this article a month ago, my wife has also started her collection with a piece by Jim Collins. So naturally they were a shoe-in for this month’s Featured Article! I hooked up with Mike Guidone, tattoo artist and co-owner of Monkey Bones for another addition to my growing collection of work from our Featured Studios and Artists – a pinup style hula girl and tiki.

“So how’d you like the show last weekend?” was Mike’s first comment to me as I walked in the door for my appointment... bypassing the usual tattoo-related chit chat and prep for my new ink. You see, Mike and three of his closest friends, Germ, Jeffie and Goad, get together the last Saturday of every month and put on an art show at C2 Open Studio in Dayton, Ohio. The theme for the show was “The Four Horsemen”, allowing the four artists to show off their representation of each of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. To answer his question, the show was great! I was impressed to see a large audience of people from all walks of life… from the heavily tattooed and pierced - to couples in evening dresses and suits – to soccer moms in jeans and sweaters. It dawned on me, this coincidence, that the creativity and raw talent brought to canvass by this group of artists was very similar to the draw that Mike and his team at Monkey Bones have over the tattoo scene in the Dayton area. People of all walks… college students, bikers, blue collar workers, lawyers, teachers… you name it – they’re walking in the doors of Monkey Bones Tattoo in Beavercreek, Ohio. Some for their first tattoos, and others for another great piece of work to add to their growing collections.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Mike Guidone moved to the Dayton area with his parents as a teenager in the nineties, and although surprisingly self-taught in art, it was no surprise that he has become a successful contributor to the tattoo community in the Midwest. He apprenticed and got his start at Dayton’s own Glenn Scott Tattoos and rose through the ranks, eventually to open his own shop in Beavercreek. It’s easy to see that over the years, he’s honed his skills – both from a technical standpoint and from an artistic standpoint – and has put together a superior team of tattoo artists that bring a highly professional level of tattooing to the Dayton area and to the Midwest. A team including the talents of tattoo artists Travis Combs, Leilani, Jim Collins and expert piercer, Raziel Graves.
