We usually try to tell the story here, but Tim puts the whole thing very nicely! Check out what he has to say for himself:
Tim Phelps: "I have been tattooing 4 years total so I'm only about 2 yrs out of my apprenticeship. I worked for 5 years to get an apprenticeship and just gave up. About that time I went in to get tattooed and finally got the chance I needed in 2003. I started my apprenticeship with Mike Anderson at Inkwell in Morgantown, Ky. He went to prison and the shop closed. I went looking for another shop to finish up at. I found a place to finish up in May 2004 called Toppers Fineline Tattoos in Bowling Green, Ky. I started all over again. I busted my ass the old fashioned way and cleaned tubes, made needles, scrubbed toilets - the whole bit. In May 2006 I finished my apprenticeship. In March 2007 I started work for Joshua Carlton at Great American Tattoo Company in Franklin, In. It was there my wife, Pepper, convinced me to open my own shop. In January 2008 I opened Age of Reason in Nashville."
"I have won a couple of awards, 2nd place tattoo of the day at the New Orleans convention in 2007, and 2nd place best medium B & G at the Nashville convention in 2008. I have won others at biker rallys and bar contests, never saw the trophies, ha ha - i'm bad ass when it comes to unfinished tribal apparently. As for publications, I have had photos in Skin and Ink and Skin Shots, haven't seen the photos anywhere else. Kinda hard to keep up with it unless they feature you."
